Le Papagayo

Hello to all VEG owners and fans! Mark here.

This month brings about yet another restaurant installation. Our previous restaurant was in Solana Beach at Lockwood Table Café, however this month brings us a bit further north on the 101, to Leucadia.

Le Papagayo is the most recent restaurant to be fitted with a VEG garden. Like Lockwood, Le papagayo is using what they grow in their garden in their actual meals! They are growing 3 varieties of peppers, basil, strawberries, thyme, and cucumbers.

Chef James Montejano gets inspiration from the garden while preparing food, and tries to incorporate local foods in many of his meals. He is not just a behind the scenes person, and was a driving force behind the garden installation. He often comes to the front of the house to talk with guests and talk about the dishes he is preparing. Ask for him if you eat there, and you will not be disappointed with his personable charm and culinary expertise!

Also, find Le Papagayo on Facebook for special deals, dishes, and their live music schedule! Weekends are especially lively.

Grow big, and stay healthy.

// Who: Mark DeMitchell and Mike Tarzian design simple hydroponic gardens that maximize space and light.

// What: Applications are generally designed to grow a variety of vegetables in areas not typically associated with having a garden. Roofs, side yards, balconies, and patios can all be fitted with Vertical Earth's unique design.

// When: The company was created in the spring of 2009, and the time to live responsibly has already begun!

// Where: North County San Diego and surrounding areas.

// Why: Mark and Mike decided that the time is now to start changing the way people live and think about growing food. Instead of talking about being green, they decided to start building and living green. They combined Mark's Business/Entrepreneur degree from UCSB and Mike's extensive landscape design experience into a company, Vertical Earth Gardens.

// How: It is their goal to help the residents of San Diego county fight drought problems, grow healthy food, and conserve environmental resources. They will do it system by system and prove their value to the community.
